The Group Inventory
By Rick W.
When I was living in NYC and had the honor of serving as the Area 49 Area Chairperson (Panel 65), one of the coolest service opportunities I was given as an Area trusted servant was the chance to sit down with an A.A. group and facilitate their group inventory. The pamphlet, “The A.A. Group” talks about the inventories being meetings in which members work toward understanding how well the group is fulfilling its primary purpose to help alcoholics recover through A.A.’s suggested Twelve Steps of recovery.
Group inventories do just that by examining the 12 Traditions, one at a time, to determine how well they are living up to these principles. When I was given the chance to work with these groups to do inventories, I was given a “suggested” script to follow that came partially from the pamphlet, and partially from the shared experience of those trusted servants who had gone before me.
I was grateful to have been given this document and I wanted to share it with you in the hopes that you will find it as beneficial as I did. If you find yourself doing a group inventory at your group (or District, Area, Convention, etc.) and have questions, feel free to reach out to me at any time and I will be happy to share my experience with you. Some of the most amazing experiences came from participating in these group inventories.
May God bless you as you (and your group) trudge the Road of Happy Destiny!
